Green Building Solutions
Great emphasis is being placed on the “Green” and “Sustainable aspects of housing. Some comparisons between our technology with wood and concrete block indicate the unique advantages of the composites we use in the construction of our panelized homes. Our technology is “green friendly” and “environmentally responsible.”

Because composites are up to 1,400 times stronger than wood, less material is used:

  • 2,600 pounds of composite materials versus 34,000 pounds of wood, versus 81,000 pounds of block,
  • 30 fiber cement and composite framing studs homes built each day, replacing stick built home, saves 15,000 acres of trees each year.
  • 30 fiber cement panel homes built each day, replacing concrete block saves using 15,000 tons of cement, aggregate and rebar,

A 2,000 square foot home built with our fiber cement panels contains 880 pounds of resin and 1,720 pounds of glass, and weighs approximately 3,000 pounds for the entire house, therefore considerable savings in foundations required.

Plastic lumber: As a substitute for treated lumber, plastic lumber products resist insects, rot, moisture and many chemicals. There are two different types of products – composite plastic lumber (wood products made from a mix of plastics and natural fibers) which is extruded and manufactured by Nu-Tech as structural framing studs, and the “wood-like” products made solely from plastics and used as plastic wood for decking and other applications. Plastic lumber has significant environmental benefits since plastic lumber is made primarily from recycled plastics, diverting waste from landfills. In some applications, recycled plastic lumber is now displacing traditional building materials. Global demand for these plastic lumber products is rising, partly due to an increase in their construction applications. Wood composites, on the other hand, are products manufactured by us from a combination of wood fibers and plastics. Their various qualities (including durability and weather resistance) make them suitable for exterior building applications including decking/railing systems, framing studs, window/door profiles, shingles, sound barriers for roadways, and infrastructure products such as boardwalks, picnic tables, and park benches.

Both natural fiber and wood composite lumber products can be made with either new plastic or post consumer/industrial recycled material. Virgin polymers offer additional aesthetic options, including pigmented choices and reproducible patterns.

Reduced Energy Use: By virtue of its solid walls and monolithic construction, over 2,000 linear feet of cracks normally found in the walls of the average stick built home are eliminated. Heating and air conditioning costs can be reduced by 40% to 60% over the life of the home.
